It was the best month of my life. I met wonderful friends from all over the world, but I also made loads of local friends. It topped all of my expectations and I wish I went for way longer. Zambia is the most beautiful country with the sweetest inhabitants. I've gained a new form of gratefulness for my life at home, immersed myself in the local culture, learned a lot about myself, pushed myself out of my comfort zone and had the absolute best time. I would 100% recommend going to Zambia. But I would also recommend teaching. The kids were the sweetest ever, very polite and very grateful. The teachers were also quick to make us feel at home and I am still in contact with them.

What recent volunteers said about their IVHQ experience
I gained a new perspective on people from this part of the world! I was deeply moved by the people I met, their kindness and warmth. I loved the school and was so moved by the children and teachers. The staff and students were open and so welcoming! As a musician, I especially loved the music and the opportunity to sing with them! I would tell someone to just go and be open and trust that they will get even more than they give!
It was an unforgettable experience. I am a teacher so I chose teaching. I was impressed with the politeness and eagerness of the children. And the music they sang was beautiful and uplifting. They had so much joy in their hearts despite limited resources. I was deeply impressed by the director of the school where we worked. Anyone who is considering volunteering should go for it! It is life-changing. And don't let age stop you. I am in my late sixties and loved the youthful energy of the younger volunteers.
Any cultural experience is valuable. I really appreciated having the connection with IVHQ who is able to help navigate and arrange and make sure things run smoothly. I have arranged these trips on my own in the past, which has not always been easy. It was such a comfort knowing I had the support of IVHQ and the local staff.
